From the 1880s until the First World War, the style known as Art Nouveau grew popular in Western Europe and the United States. Organic forms inspired by nature, frequently emphasized with curving lines or elaborate flourishes, characterize the style’s decorative vocabulary. This vase—an undulating vessel of blue glass accentuated by swirling silver tendrils and flowers—is an American example of this sensuous style that was expressed in both art and architecture. 

Purchased 1985 from (Minna Rosenblatt, Ltd.), New York by the Denver Art Museum.
