Although plastic was the favored material for progressive furniture in the 1960s, designers like Grete Jalk continued to explore innovative solutions in plywood. The undulant surfaces of her chair, which call to mind origami or folded cloth, proved that new artistic results were possible with plywood. Jalk successfully bent plywood to a degree typically only seen in molded designs.
