My Blue-Green Algae (Fluke) illustrate the artist’s thoughts on the age old theoretical dispute of “nature versus nurture;” and the influence of environmental and genetic elements on our lives. This image also touch on the notion of the sublime in nature and her search for a contemporary portrayal of the sublime.

Kelly McLane earned her BFA from Kansas City Art Institute in 1991 and her MFA from University of California, Davis, in 1994.
