Chen Wenling is a contemporary Chinese Neo-Realist artist that uses traditional Chinese symbols, often pigs, in a surreal, ironic style. Wenling created the sculptural work Pig (with Pigs 1, 2, 3, and 4) as a metaphor for lazy, gluttonous, dirty, people living in the consumerist world of today. The laughing and snarling animals strike perverse poses to embody a satirical play of sexual and moral wickedness. The viewer reacts to Wenling’s visceral artworks by examining their own impulses to greed, gluttony, and sloth.
