As visually forceful as caution tape at a crime scene, the red-and-white sashing surrounds the individual houses, no two of which are identical. Strongly contrasting solid colors, a striped sky in the third row, and striped roofs in the first and fifth rows create visual confusion, making it difficult at first to recognize the houses. Quilting stitches are worked in both related and contrasting colors to the fabric, sometimes barely noticeable, other times adding to the design.
