Graham, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Addison and anonymous donors, 1981.632 In The Violin, American Pop artist Roy Lichtenstein successfully combines the classic art of still life with the mass media method of commercial printing. He paints a violin using thick black outlines and the Ben-Day dots used in cheaply printed comic strips, transforming the traditional still life subject into a style based on contemporary mass media culture.
