Join Us For Colorado Day

No matter the season, I always think how lucky I am to call Colorado home. This summer is even more fun because all around the state you can enjoy events and activities commemorating and celebrating the 150^th anniversary of the state of Colorado, which also dovetails with the 250^th anniversary of the founding of the United States.

Colorado Day is August 1, and we will be celebrating with a weekend of creativity and inspiration for the whole family. The Golden Triangle neighborhood will be the place to be! The fun kicks off at Untitled: Artist Takeover on Friday, July 31, featuring artists Lilian Lara and Elle Hong and a program that highlights local Denver communities. That evening, the Civic Center NIGHT MARKET: Homegrown Colorado is also happening. And join us on August 1 when the DAM will host a Colorado Day Art Market and SCFD Free Day, in conjunction with History Colorado’s Colorado Day Community Fest.. An SCFD Free Day is a fitting way to celebrate the magic of our community and thank everyone who supports the vibrant arts and culture in the region.

We also honor this Colorado milestone by focusing on voices of local artists and our collections that share Colorado perspectives. A few examples include:

‘Round the Clock: 24 Hours of Colorado in Prints at The Kirkland takes visitors through the state through the eyes of printmakers, one hour at a time.

John E. Thompson and Colorado Modernism (opens July 19) celebrates the work and career of John E. Thompson alongside those of his friends and students during the first half of the 1900s. The artists and patrons in the exhibition changed the course of artistic production in Colorado.

Our 2026 Native Arts Artist-in-Residence program invited four artists with ancestral ties to the Arapaho, Cheyenne and Ute tribes to create artwork for the Home/Land section of the Indigenous Arts of North America galleries.

The beauty and history of Colorado is, and has been, a source of creative inspiration for so many. Through our exhibitions, programs, and partnerships we are honored to help amplify the voices of Colorado artists throughout the year.
