This November, City of Denver voters will have the opportunity to support public investment in infrastructure through the Vibrant Denver Bonds measures 2A–2E.
Supports Improvements Throughout the City
The proposed $950 million bond package includes more than 200 repairs, improvements, and upgrades to vital city infrastructure and community spaces, without raising taxes. Community input throughout the process resulted in projects that will impact every city district and help Denver continue to be a great place to live. Projects range from traffic safety improvements to critical health and human services to community center developments and upgrades at cultural organizations, including the DAM.
Supports Updates to Denver Cultural Facilities
The Denver Art Museum is included in bond measure 2D alongside numerous cultural organizations—including the Denver Botanic Gardens, DCPA, DMNS, the Denver Zoo and Red Rocks Amphitheater—as well as animal shelters and libraries across the city.
With the passage of 2D, the Denver Art Museum will receive $3 million toward installing power-assisted door openers to improve accessibility for visitors with mobility challenges, replacing the Hamilton Building's roof, and implementing repairs, replacements, and upgrades to aging HVAC systems.
Since the opening of the museum’s Hamilton Building nearly 20 years ago in 2006, the building has been in continuous service and has welcomed around 12,000,000 visitors in total. As a whole, the DAM serves about 500,000 visitors each year.
A Welcoming Space for Creativity and Community
The Denver Art Museum’s mission is to serve the community by enriching people’s lives through experiences with art and culture. Fulfilling this commitment necessitates a well-maintained and accessible campus equipped to safely care for the collections while providing a safe and beautiful space for visitors.
The primary project to install power-assisted doors will help ensure that visitors with all kinds of mobility needs—whether wheelchairs, walkers, or strollers—can fully enjoy our offerings with dignity and ease. Community input was invaluable in this process. The current need for power-assisted doors in the Hamilton Building is a common point of visitor feedback, and we’ve sought input from disability community stakeholders through various channels, directly shaping the scope of our accessibility enhancements to meet their specific needs.
Maintaining the building infrastructure and key systems are important for the safety of artwork and the comfort of museum visitors and will allow the Denver Art Museum to continue offering world-class art experiences, providing a vital cultural resource and bringing significant economic and educational benefit to the region.
Please consider supporting bond measures 2A–2E when you receive your Denver ballot. Voting in favor of measure 2D directly supports the DAM and critical updates to the city’s other cultural facilities. Learn more about the Vibrant Denver Bond projects and ballot measures at VibrantDenver.com.
