While studying in Munich, Ufer developed a distinctive style of painting based on the principles of the alla prima technique, painting while the paint remains wet instead of letting it dry between applications. A direct and unpredictable way of working, it requires the artist to paint quickly, and Ufer often finished a work in a single sitting. He also preferred to paint at midday when the sun was at its most intense.
