Two women working on an art project

Embroidery: Drawing with Thread

Class Details

What to Expect

We will be learning how to embroider in-class. No experience necessary. Beginners are welcome. It is easy and relaxing to learn. During class time we will be mostly creating our own artworks. We will be looking at embroidery works around the museum during the second class for inspiration. We will be completing two finished embroidery works during the 4-week class.

Class Timeline

This class meets every Wednesday for 4 weeks from February 1 to February 22 at 10 am-12 pm.

  • Class 1: Come to class with a short quote, saying, or even music lyrics in mind to embroider. We will dive into making these words come alive through embroidery.
  • Class 2: We will take a short tour of the museum to look at embroidery artworks for inspiration and then will learn and practice some fun embroidery stitches.
  • Class 3: Students will have time to complete their first projects or practice. We will look at the whimsical contemporary embroidery of artist Jenny Hart and think about ideas for our final embroideries.
  • Class 4: Students will draw an image onto fabric and make it come alive with embroidery, using basic stitches (essentially drawing with thread!). They can also use the stitches we learned in class 2 to embellish their drawings.
