Vista general
Join speaker Ana Elena Mallet for an engaging lecture that will present how historical sources and craft traditions greatly influenced 20th and 21st century fashion design in Mexico through short biographical profiles of key designers from the period.
Immediately after the Mexican Revolution in the 1920s, fashion designers began incorporating ideas borrowed from traditional garments and historical visual repertoires into their production to infuse national identity to their designs.
A century later, Mexican designers keep looking at history and traditions for inspiration but from a different perspective.
Today, Mexican fashion is a place of convergence of people and ideas, a space for collaborating with communities of artisans, a collective thinking ground focused on modes of production that preserve and develop historical legacies but also provide path for economic progress and sustainable development models.
Tickets are free for Museum Friends, $10 for members, and $20 for nonmembers.
