Fantastic Brush: Twentieth-Century Chinese Ink Art from the Robert and Lisa Kessler Collection
With the collapse of China's last imperial dynasty in 1911 and the subsequent wars and political upheavals, the centuries-long tradition of Chinese ink art transformed dramatically as artists responded to the changing times. The artists in the Fantastic Brush: Twentieth-Century Chinese Ink Art from the Robert and Lisa Kessler Collection gallery all explored ways to bring traditional ink painting and calligraphy into the modern world. Artworks featured include some of the most influential Chinese artists of the past hundred years.
Fantastic Brush is a temporary exhibition located in the Asian art galleries and is on view through Fall 2022.
Calligraphy and ink and color painting on paper have a rich tradition dating back more than a thousand years in China. Fantastic Brush: Twentieth-Century Chinese Ink Art from the Robert and Lisa Kessler Collection, accompanying a special exhibition gallery of the same name organized by the Denver Art Museum, richly exmaines this exciting and transformative period in Chinese art.
