El Denver Art Museum (DAM) presenta Her Brush: Japanese Women Artists from the Fong-Johnstone Collection Su pincel: Mujeres artistas japonesas de la colección Fong-Johnstone Collection. La exposición aborda, de manera sutil, cuestiones de la voz artística, el género y la agencia como persona a través de más de 100 obras de pintura, caligrafía y cerámica del Japón de los siglos XVII al XX.

Muchas de estas obras de arte se expondrán por primera vez al público. Her Brush, que podrá visitarse desde el 13 de noviembre de 2022 al 13 de mayo de 2023 en la Sala Bonfils-Stanton, ubicada en el nivel 1 del Edificio Martin del DAM, está incluida en la entrada general. Trazando los caminos que las mujeres artistas debieron abrirse en pos de su práctica artística, Her Brush explora el impulso humano universal hacia la expresión artística como forma de autorrealización, mientras se sorteaban barreras culturales en épocas marcadas por estrictos roles de género y normas sociales. Estas restricciones sociales e históricas funcionaron como obstáculos, pero también como estímulo para las mujeres que querían dedicarse al arte en el Japón de la época.

Her Brush presenta obras de artistas renombradas como Kiyohara Yukinobu 清原雪信 (1643–1682), Ōtagaki Rengetsu 太田垣蓮月 (1791–1875) y Okuhara Seiko 奥原晴湖 (1837–1913), así como de artistas relativamente desconocidas, pero igualmente extraordinarias, como Ōishi Junkyō 大石順教 (1888–1968), Yamamoto Shōtō 山本緗桃 (1757–1831) y Katō Seikō 加藤青湖 (fl. siglo XIX).
