A Mountain Symphony On Display to the Public for the First Time in 90 Years
Every year between 1908 and 1952, Swedish-born American artist Sven Birger Sandzén (1871-1954) traveled into the Colorado Rockies and produced vibrant interpretations of the state’s “beauty of bigness.” Thanks to the generosity of the DAM Westerners, the Petrie Institute of Western American Art’s acquisitions group, Sandzén’s A Mountain Symphony (Longs Peak, Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado) is on display to the public for the first time in 90 years.

James Córdova is Final Artist of Cuatro[4]: A Series of Artist Interactions
Our fourth and last artist of the Cuatro[4]: A Series of Artist Interactions is art history professor and santero (someone who makes religious images), James Córdova. For his project, James is creating a triptych in the santero tradition that explores images of the conquest and paintings that came out of the Spanish Colonial period in Mexico. His piece, San Hipólito y las secuelas de la conquista, will offer an in-depth look at how the mixing of indigenous and European cultures came together to create a new visual vocabulary.
