Movember, a combination of the words “mustache” and “November,” is an annual event during which men grow mustaches in November to raise awareness for various men’s health issues. In honor of it, we put together a selection of 'staches at the Denver Art Museum.
The campaign is run by The Movember Foundation. Their vision is to “get men to grow mustaches and the community to support them by creating an innovative, fun, and engaging annual Movember campaign.”
The practice of “slow looking” is a major theme in the Denver Art Museum’s exhibition Matisse and Friends: Selected Masterworks from the National Gallery of Art. Slow looking refers, quite literally, to slowing down the art-viewing process. This often requires the viewer to spend larger amounts of time, perhaps 10-20 minutes, with each work of art, focusing less on art historical detail and more on a personal experience with the object.
Here are some tips and guidelines to help you prepare for your visit to the Denver Art Museum exhibition Brilliant: Cartier in the 20th Century.
If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to live with a masterpiece, your wait is over. Matisse and Friends: Selected Masterworks from the National Gallery of Art is an experimental exhibition that offers a cozy environment for looking at art, somewhat akin to a living room.
Denver Arts Week, a celebration of the city’s rich and diverse arts and cultural scene, kicks off this weekend. The Denver Art Museum is participating in Free Night at the Museums on Saturday, November 8 by staying open late and offering free general admission from 5–10 pm.
Treasures of British Art 1400–2000: The Berger Collection just opened at the Portland Museum of Art in Portland, Maine, and a good time was had by all–including Denver Art Museum director Christoph Heinrich, shown in the photo above admiring the Berger Collection painting by Sir Anthony van Dyck, Dorothy, Lady Dacre.
To celebrate the opening, collection curator Kathleen Stuart will give a lecture on November 4, 2014 in the Sharp Auditorium at the DAM on the intriguing backstories of the pictures featured in the show.
Get comfy, Denver. The DAM is inviting people to spend time looking closely at 14 French paintings this fall. The new exhibition Matisse and Friends: Selected Masterworks from the National Gallery of Art opens this weekend. Director Christoph Heinrich and master teacher Danielle St. Peter led media through the exhibition on October 9.
Come check out level six of the North Building of the Denver Art Museum where you can now see an imaginary view of Rome by eighteenth-century Italian master Giovanni Paolo Panini. The subject is a capriccio (literally, a caprice), indicating a composition where real and invented architectural structures are brought together in imaginary settings.

Unidos, the theme for this month’s CelebrARTE at the Denver Art Museum, means unified or united. We couldn’t be more pleased to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month by celebrating our unity in diversity as we collaborate with Cleo Parker Robinson Dance Company, Dancing Across Cultures of Denver, and Arte Crisol of Guadalajara, Mexico. At CelebrARTE on September 21, these three dance companies will perform Azteca Spirit, a work inspired by Mexican and African-American cultures. They also will conduct a taller (or master artist workshop) with visitors.
Update: Download the program (PDF) for Friday, September 26.
