Dear Families,
We invite you to fall in love with art in February at the Denver Art Museum!
Swoon over Free First Saturday (February 3)
Free First Saturday on February 3 will have you swooning with joy! Take a walk on the wild side in the family fun space, A Walk in the Woods! Play, imagine, and make art to take home. Spot birds in a colorful flock, mix-and-match animal costumes to create new creatures; build horse sculptures inspired by artist Deborah Butterfield, and make a shadowbox to display your favorite creatures.
Happy New Year! It’s time to set some resolutions. Let the Denver Art Museum start you off on the right foot in the month of January.
Resolution #1: Have fun as a family!
December is packed full of things for families to do at the DAM. The North Building might be closed, but there is so much to do in the Hamilton Building, you may want to come back multiple times to join in all the fun! As always, youth 18 and under receive free general admission to the DAM.
A New Create-n-Take: Starting December 2 (available weekends and school breaks)
In addition to working at the Denver Art Museum, many of our staff members are engaged with the local creative community in a variety of ways. In a series of articles, we'd like to introduce you to some of the creatives and artists on our staff.
1. What do you do at the museum?
I'm a sales and services associate so I help people with memberships and introduce guests to the museum as they get their admission.
2. How long have you worked here?
I started in early August.
Yes, you can! The video game Never Alone is part of the Denver Art Museum exhibition Stampede: Animals in Art.
What is Never Alone?
In Never Alone (also known as Kisima Inŋitchuŋa in the Alaska Native Iñupiaq language), players take on the roles of a young Iñupiaq girl and an arctic fox in an atmospheric puzzle platformer that combines traditional stories, settings, and characters that have been handed down over generations by Alaska Native people whose roots and heritage date back millennia.
Fall programming has definitely kicked into high gear at the Denver Art Museum. Come visit us and take part in our countless family offerings as we celebrate the final weeks before the North Building Renovation project gets underway. Youth 18 and under receive free general admission to the DAM.
Kicking off a very busy November is Free First Saturday. On November 4, drop in and listen to the stories behind the objects with storytellers during our bilingual program Cuentos del Arte. Stories are at 11:30 am and 1 pm.
Autumn has arrived! As the weather cools outside, head inside to the Denver Art Museum for a bundle of new activities to enjoy. Youth 18 and under receive free general admission to the DAM. October 7 is Free First Saturday—general admission is free for everyone.

See Your Pet on the Gallery Wall
For the exhibition Stampede: Animals in Art the Denver Art Museum invites visitors to share photos of your pets on Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #DAMpets. These photos will appear in the exhibition’s “Beloved” section in a livestream on a framed iPad hung side-by-side with artworks from DAM’s collections. You will find this section on level 3 of the DAM’s Hamilton Building.
Kids, families, aspiring zookeepers, and animal lovers are invited to play a new gallery game in the Denver Art Museum exhibition Stampede: Animals in Art.
Note: Kids 18 and younger receive free general admission to the DAM.
I’ve been going to museums for most of my life. I like going with my grandparents because I love spending time with them. We go to zoos, the aquarium, science museums, and art museums. We get to see art and other interesting things, do activities, and shop. I like to hear their perspectives about the artworks and how it might compare to stories from their lives. We moved to Denver a year and a half ago, so now I get to go to the Denver Art Museum with my family.
There’s always plenty for kids and families to explore at the Denver Art Museum. This summer, if you visit the museum with children, here are some suggestions for fun exhibitions and activities. All of the following are free for youth 18 and younger.
1. The Western: An Epic in Art and Film
Howdy partners! Kids and families are invited to play a new gallery game as you explore The Western: An Epic in Art and Film. (This exhibition is free for youth 18 and younger. Learn more about adult ticket prices.)
The game will have you searching for different imagery of key aspects of the Western genre: people, places, and stories. The exhibition features sculpture, paintings, and video clips of well-known Western movies, so there’s plenty to look at and a lot of high-action content to keep everyone interested.
