About the Precourt Program
The Precourt Family Discovery Hall features an artist-designed experience with an aim toward inspiring imagination, play, and wonder. Each artist installation takes advantage of the Hamilton Building’s unique architecture and is designed to encourage visitors of all ages to interact with the artwork and with one another.
The Tangled Self
Artist: Sadie Young with collaborators from Spectra Art Space
Dates: May 4, 2025, through September 20, 2026
The Tangled Self is a colorful yarn and fiber-based installation that invites visitors to step inside the enormous mouths of towering monsters, dodge playful tube creatures, and discover hidden and unexpected surprises. In attempting to make our inner monsters more approachable, the installation asks us to reflect on the question: Why is it sometimes easier to see the negative parts of self instead of embracing the positive?
Space Command
Artist: Chris Bagley
Dates: July 23, 2023, through January 20, 2025
Space Command was an immersive installation that repurposed vintage scientific equipment, Mylar, and other space-age materials to create an interactive environment with emanating light, pulsing sound, and rotating objects. The installation invited visitors to probe the boundless mysteries of space by immersing their senses through sight, sound, and touch and take in the wonders of "cosmic" debris—both familiar and foreign.
Memory Mirror
Artist: Lares Feliciano
Dates: July 4, 2021, through June 19, 2023
Memory Mirror was an immersive installation designed to evoke the memory of a relative’s living room, both familiar and fantastic. Through animation, dioramas, and interactive storytelling, visitors were invited to explore their relationship with memory and how it morphs, changes, and gets distorted as time passes.
