Jason Middlebrook is a contemporary mixed-media artist, whose work explores the complex relationship between nature and man, often paying homage to the work of fellow contemporary artists. "In Conversation" features the iconic Robert Indiana "LOVE" sculpture, deteriorating in a field spotted with overgrown flowers, surrounded by four rodents. Sprouting from each of the mammal’s heads are what appear to be colored thought bubbles, hinting at their ability to engage with one another, perhaps a reference to the title.

Jason Middlebrook was born in 1966 in Jackson, Michigan. He received his BFA from the University of California at Santa Cruz in 1990 and an MFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in California in 1994.
