Pottery made by Van Briggle is unique for its matte glaze; Van Briggle is perhaps the only known potter to master it. Artus Van Briggle, the founder of the pottery, believed in letting the ceramic “carry its own beauty” without the addition of glass. The softness of the matte glaze complements the sinuous natural forms and figures molded in low relief on Van Briggle vessels.
