The Herman Miller Summer Picnic posters were designed by company creative director Stephen Frykholm. Frykholm has defined the voice and sensibility of the Herman Miller brand for the past forty years, directing the graphic identity of the National Design Award-winning corporation. This poster is part of a series of twenty created by Herman Miller for their annual company summer picnic held between 1970 and 1989. The posters depict up-close views of familiar picnic foods, evoked using only the most fundamental fields of color. The screen printing was done with deeply saturated high-gloss inks, whose rich colors conjure up a pop-art summertime.
