Placing iconic figures from well-known paintings together in an unlikely setting, Hickok takes her characters out of context to create humorous compositions on unconventional themes. Equally unusual is her technique. She embroiders on a water-soluble ground fabric that disappears when wet, leaving the pictorial elements held together solely by the stitches.
