Meant to look like the palm of a hand containing small compartments, Mano Creadora (Creative Hand) is a wooden sculpture by Los Carpinteros (The Carpenters) that combines design elements with handcraft art in a playful way. As a Cuban artist collective, founded in Havana in 1992 by Marco Castillo, Dagoberto Rodríguez, and, included Alexandre Arrechea until he  departed in 2003, Los Carpinteros was formed as a modern guild of artisans. Interested in the interplay between art and the everyday, the group incorporates humor into their work in order to make social comments. By questioning the very function of the object they represent, the group calls attention to contradictions and disparities that pertain to the real world.
