In autumn 1914, Proctor attended the Pendleton Round-Up in Oregon, an annual rodeo spectacle attended by thousands Thrilled by the experience, he returned to the cowboy theme for the first time in over twenty years with his own adaptation of the bucking horse-and-rider theme. The title Buckaroo is a term used in the Northwest to refer to cowboys.
