This carved board was used as an ornamental and functional entrance to a house in New Guinea. Elaborate geometric designs and a pointed spire decorate the top portion of the board, while the undecorated lower portion features the large oval that serves as the entrance. Red and black paints like the ones you see here are typically applied to enhance carved designs.
