Frank Lloyd Wright established early success with a series of midwestern architectural projects that defined American architecture for the modern era. As a means to disseminate his work, Wright and Berlin publisher Ernst Wasmuth issued Ausgeführte Bauten und Entwürfe von Frank Lloyd Wright (Executed Buildings and Studies of Frank Lloyd Wright), a portfolio of 100 illustrations known today simply as The Wasmuth Portfolio. This publication served as an inspiration for European and American architects in the decades to follow.
