Cloisonne enamel on copper
Gift of H. Medill Sarkisian and Justine Sarkisian Rodriguez
Possibly used as a ritual vessel, this ornate vase combines traditional Chinese shapes with Islamic-style decoration. The vessel is decorated with multicolor enamel floral motifs and quotes from the Quran in red Sini calligraphy, a style used in China for Arabic script. They were likely made for Chinese Muslims who also observed traditional Chinese customs.
