The craze for using tobacco-related textiles to fashion everything from robes and slippers to decorative household furnishings had an earlier manifestation. This Victorian table cover is made from silk cigar bands. The darkly printed brand names and insignias create a pattern of Xs and a grid, with the gold silk bands, outlined with silk embroidery, create diamonds.
