Bridel-Boiceau collection, probably acquired in Marseille, France [1]; by descent, Maurice Bridel [1921-2005], Lausanne, Switzerland, probably by 1948; purchase, (M. Knoedler & Co.), New York, stock book no. A7539, March 30, 1960; purchase, Denver Art Museum, 1961. [1] Multiple publications and DAM object file notes indicate the work was acquired by Bridel’s heirs in Marseille shortly after the Napoleonic Wars, but no definitive documentation has been found.
