Private collection, Bordeaux, France. (Matthiessen, London); on joint account from December 1937 with (Jacques Seligmann & Co., New York); [1] sold to Samuel H. Kress [1863 1955] on 10 May 1950; gift to the Denver Art Museum in 1961, no. 1961.176 (on loan from the Kress Foundation, 1954–61). [1] Jacques Seligmann records, Archives of American Art, Collectors Files Box 204, General Correspondence Box 64, Purchase Receipts, Box 290, document acquisition by Seligmann from Matthiesen in December 1937. Matthiesen does not disclose his source for the picture. Provenance research is on-going at the Denver Art Museum and we will post information as it becomes available.
