This bronze ornament is one of a pair in the Denver Art Museum's collection of alert-looking seated deer used as chariot yoke ornaments. They are stylistically similar to objects found in Taohongbala culture sites in today’s middle Inner Mongolia. The Taohongbala had a pastoral economy and engaged in extensive exchanges with their neighbors.
