Cuppetelli & Mendoza: Transposition

A collaboration between artists Annica Cuppetelli and Cristobal Mendoza, Cuppetelli and Mendoza: Transposition is a site-specific installation that explores the intersection between traditional craft and digital technology. The artwork consists of elastic ropes that are illuminated by software driven video projections. Interacting with this artwork, visitors can discover the relationship between textile, movement, and technology.

Collaborating since 2010, Annica Cuppetelli and Cristobal Mendoza come from two completely different backgrounds artistically—Mendoza from programming and Cuppetelli from fiber arts. Similarly, their work consists of several such interfaces: between the viewer and the piece (a human/computer interface), between the real and the virtual (the physical structure), and between the foreground and the background (as the projection interferes with its shadow). Together they developed a hybridized language of art that suggests innovative ways of interpreting contemporary ideas and technology.

Cuppetelli and Mendoza: Transposition was part of the summer 2013 campus-wide exhibition Spun: Adventures in Textiles.
