Overview
Sensory-Friendly Mornings is a program designed for kids with neurodiversity or sensory processing disorders and their families to visit the museum in a safe and fun way. The museum will open early, dim the lights, and provide tools to aid and guide a sensory-friendly experience for the whole family.
Our featured "Meet and Make" artist for October’s Sensory-Friendly Morning is Kenya Mahogany Fashaw. Kenya is a spoken word artist, educator, actress, producer, and singer. She is the writer and director of the Henry Award winning play Colorism, Breaking the Chains of Complexion, produced by the 5280 Artist Co-Op. Kenya was honored as one of Colorado's Creatives in Westword 2020 and recently performed her first TEDx Talk. Learn more about Kenya’s work at her website or follow her on Instagram or Facebook.
Our friends from McNicholas Miniature Therapy Horses will be back to provide equine therapy (as well as general cuteness). This Sensory-Friendly Morning will also see the addition of an extra hour, the expansion of the event to both the Hamilton and Martin buildings, and the introduction of new and improved sensory-friendly accommodations. Please note: Sensory-Friendly Morning begina at 9 am in Hamilton. The museum opens at 10 am for general admission. Light and audio will return to regular levels at 12 pm.
