Registration opens at 10 am MST on the following dates:

  • Monday, May 15: Museum Friends
  • Wednesday, May 17: All members
  • Friday, May 19: Open to everyone

Please be aware space is limited and advance registration is required.

Pricing Information

For 6-week and 4-week classes, students will purchase their own materials. No Studio Fee.

For 1-day workshops, all materials provided with an additional Studio Fee of $30–$90.

Class Details

Location

Creative Classes are held in the DAM’s state-of-the-art classrooms, located inside the Bartlit Learning and Engagement Center on level 1 of the Martin Building.

Class Cancellation Policy

If a class or workshop needs to be cancelled due to inclement weather or teacher illness, a “make-up” day will be scheduled on a Friday or Saturday as the educator’s schedule allows.

What to Expect

This class meets weekly on Wednesdays from August 30 to September 13, 2023, from 1:30 to 3:30 pm. Due to a scheduling conflict, there will be no class on Wednesday, September 20. As a result, there will be two sessions the following week on Wednesday, September 27, and Friday, September 29, with the final class on Wednesday, October 4.

During class time, the instructor will provide demonstrations, lectures, and work time for students. Students will experiment with new processes with the instructor present to offer assistance. Students do not need any prior technical knowledge.

Timeline

  • Class 1: Color mixing and acrylic painting techniques. Begin to discuss found imagery.
  • Class 2: Make viewfinders and visit the Arts of Oceania collection. Ideation and sketching.
  • Class 3: Exercise 1: Continue sketchbooks and developing ideas. Exercise 2: Begin painting collage with initial sketch.
  • Class 4: Painting.
  • Class 5: Selecting found images to be combined onto painted surface.
  • Class 6: Layering found images into painting collage.

Materials

Students will purchase their own materials and should expect to spend $50-100. A materials list will be provided to all students at least 4 weeks prior to the start of this class.

About the Educator

Moe Gram is a multidisciplinary artist who lives in Denver, and works in a diverse array of media including painting, mural, collage, and installation. Gram graduated from California State University Bakersfield with a major in visual arts and a minor in cultural studies. Currently Gram is the Community Outreach Coordinator at RedLine Contemporary Art Center. Empathetic works on canvas alongside installations and murals, Moe Gram’s work is distinctive, engaging, and thoughtful. Through her playful color palette, messaging, and use of juxtaposition, Gram’s work encourages the viewer to absorb and reflect—for the betterment of oneself and collectively for us all.
