Škáta: The Art of Skateboarding
The Stronghold Society, founded by artist Walt Pourier in 2011, is a nonprofit dedicated to inspiring confidence, creativity, hope, and ambition in youth. Bridging Native and non-Native communities through skating and art, programs support the youth movement through Live Life Call to Action campaigns that foster empowerment, resilience, and well-being.
The skateboard deck has long been a blank canvas for artists and skaters to communicate boldly. This collection of skate decks from the Stronghold Society celebrates Indigenous artists and allies.
Visit Desert Rider: Dreaming in Motion in the Hamilton Building through September 24 to see additional skateboard artworks from Indigenous artists. And join us September 17 for the Škáta; The Art of Skateboarding celebration.
