Overview

Photographer Pablo López Luz began learning about art through his father, a gallery owner, when he was a child growing up in Mexico City. After earning an MFA from New York University, he returned to his hometown where he currently lives and works.

The rich artistic and architectural history of Mexico, the tradition of landscape painting, and photographers such as Graciela Iturbide and Lewis Baltz all inspire Pablo López Luz’s work. His photographs of the natural and urban landscape around Mexico City and other parts of Latin America explore the relationship between people and the environment. His recent projects consider ways in which history is visually present in the contemporary world and can contribute to notions of identity.
