Why the Change?

Supporting Our Campus: As you know, our museum has grown! We're now managing a much larger campus that includes the Hamilton and Martin buildings, the Sie Welcome Center, and most recently The Kirkland, which has now fully merged with the DAM. This is fantastic for our collection and for our community, but it also means our hard-working museum teams have a much larger space and collection to care for and manage. Having the chance on Wednesdays to tackle some projects without impacting visitors’ experiences will give all of us a dedicated day to more efficiently handle everything from exhibition planning and installation to vital maintenance across all our buildings. Imagine trying to install a massive new sculpture with hundreds of people walking through – it's a bit like juggling! This weekly closure will help us ensure everyone has the best experience possible every time they visit.

Supporting Our Teams: This closure provides essential time for our museum teams to manage the extensive DAM campus, including the Hamilton and Martin buildings, The Ponti Restaurant and Café Gio, as well as The Kirkland.

New, Expanded Hours and Access for The Kirkland: We are thrilled to announce that The Kirkland Museum will be open an extra day each week! Moving forward, The Kirkland will be open to visitors Thursday through Tuesday, offering six days of access to our unique collections, in alignment with the DAM. This new schedule significantly expands opportunities for our community and visitors to experience The Kirkland, especially families! Children of all ages, including children under the age of 13, are invited to enjoy and explore all the buildings on our campus, including The Kirkland.

Ensuring Our Long-Term Sustainability: This adjustment to our operating hours allows us to optimize our resources to continue bringing visitors incredible exhibitions, educational programs, and community events well into the future.

Explore Other Cultural Gems on Wednesdays: We encourage everyone to discover other fantastic cultural institutions open on Wednesdays, such as The Clyfford Still Museum, History Colorado Center, Museum of Contemporary Art Denver (MCA Denver), the Denver Botanic Gardens, and the Denver Museum of Nature & Science.

What does this mean for our visitors?

While we'll miss welcoming visitors on Wednesdays, we believe this change will ultimately lead to an even better museum experience.

We remain committed to being a vibrant, accessible, and engaging hub for art in our community. We look forward to welcoming you six days a week—Thursdays through Tuesdays (open until 8 pm on Tuesdays!)—and continuing to share the power of art with you.

Thank you for your continued support. We can't wait to see you at the museum!
