Carleen Brice is senior content manager in the marketing department at the Denver Art Museum. Carleen has been at the DAM since 2013. Every day at the museum she is reminded of this quote by Maya Angelou: "You can’t use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have."
With the Martin Building renovation and new Sie Welcome Center, the museum took the opportunity to create more programs, exhibitions, and spaces that are inclusive and welcoming.
Last October, we collaborated with Dope Mom Life, a local video production company, to invite community members to visit and let us know what they think. Dianne (the "dope mom" who started the company) and her team facilitated several community roundtables for people to voice their opinions about art and creativity, their perceptions about museums, and their experiences at the DAM. We paid them for their time and input, and asked three people—Joce, Ryane, and Alejandra—to share their thoughts for a series of videos. In the video below, they discuss, in their own words, the joy, connection, appreciation, and inspiration they experience visiting the DAM.
Science backs them up. Studies show visiting museums can lead to a happier, healthier life. Engaging with art reduces stress, improves quality of life, and creates connections—all things we need now more than ever.
We hope you and your friends and family will come explore the reimagined and renovated museum soon. People 18 and younger enjoy free general admission every day, and the museum also hosts regular Free Days. Learn more and plan your visit.
Art is in our veins and in our souls no matter where you come from, what background you have....
