Lust, sin, adoration, loyalty, and beauty all come together in this visual buffet of 300 years worth of medieval, Renaissance, and baroque paintings, many on view outside of Belgium for the first time ever. Read more.
Saints, Sinners, Lovers, and Fools: 300 Years of Flemish Masterworks (on view through January 22, 2023) features more than 100 artworks making their US debut at the DAM. Even though they were painted 500 years ago and thousands of miles from Denver, they have much to say about the present time. They show people striving for health, love, and happiness, responding to changing technologic and economic conditions, being concerned about their position in society, and hoping for a place in heaven. Being saints, sinners, lovers, and fools—much like today.
In honor of the exhibition, we invited Shirley Delta Blow to ask Denverites how they identify. What makes you a saint or sinner? Who do you love and what are you a fool for?
