The DAM's Homeschool Program Day is designed to provide museum education programming for homeschool groups in a format that can meet their unique needs. We want to allow homeschool groups to access museum resources to provide learning experiences that give them opportunities to interact with a variety of people in the museum and explore a range of activities on par with what we offer to schools.
Homeschool groups serve a wide variety of ages and need a type of experience that is different from what we offer to school groups. The museum has built learning opportunities that use the same thinking, exploring, and looking lessons used for school groups and offer them in ways that allow for more flexibility, for both learners and parent chaperones/teachers. The schedule for the day is built to accommodate a variety of learning styles, attention spans, and adaptable structures. Homeschool groups are offered the same opportunity to engage in free or low-cost activities as traditional school groups.
What is Homeschool Program Day?
The Homeschool Program Day consists of workshops and in-gallery tours with a docent. There is no cost for homeschool groups to participate in the in-gallery tours in the museum's various galleries.
Homeschool educators have three options to choose from as well as choosing a specific gallery or floor they'd like to visit.
- Imagination Games: Pre-K-2nd grade
- Perception Games: 3rd grade - 5th grade
- Art & Social Consciousness Tours: Grades 4th - 12th Grade
Choose a Lens: Art & Identity, Art & the Environment & Design Thinking
Homeschool groups have the option to participate in a TAB workshop. There is a nominal cost of $5 per student per workshop.

Wild Things Homeschool Day
Homeschool Day is going wild!
Wild Things: The Art of Maurice Sendak is on view October 13, 2024, through February 23, 2025. This ticketed exhibition showcases Sendak’s beloved work through a wide array of objects, drawings, paintings, and mockups from his award-winning books, as well as theater and film projects. Among many other highlights, the exhibition will feature the first presentation of all the original paintings for Where the Wild Things Are.
We can’t wait to welcome you and your family to the DAM to see art that inspires courage, adventure, resilience, and curiosity. There will be youth and adult audio guides to support your experience in the exhibition itself. Our artmaking workshops will have special Sendak-themed components. And we are also producing a 40-minute play, Art Emergency: Sendak Edition, that students of all ages will learn from and enjoy.
There are three ways for your home school group to structure their visits to Wild Things: The Art of Maurice Sendak:
- Package A: Exhibition & artmaking workshop (available all week)
- Package B: Exhibition & play (available Wednesdays and Fridays)
- Package C: Exhibition only (available all week)
