dos & don’ts

Whether you're a first-time museum visitor or a life-long member of the DAM, you need to know a few things about our museum.

Don't Touch

Even the lightest touch can damage a work of art. So please do not touch the art. Your great-great-grandchildren will thank you.

Pack a Camera

Photography for personal, noncommercial use is permitted unless the artwork is on loan (marked "TL" on the label). If you're not sure, ask a security officer. Cameras must be handheld, and the flash must be built in or attached to the camera.

Sketch with Pencils

Feel free to sketch with pencil in notebooks 8 ½ by 11 inches or smaller. Colored pencils and ink pens are not allowed in the galleries, except in designated artmaking areas.

Bring the Kids

The DAM is a fun and fascinating place for kids of all ages. Strollers are available at our welcome centers, and family restrooms are located in both buildings.

Stow Your Bags & Packages

Please use our free lockers on level one of both buildings.

Talk About It

We encourage dialogue in the galleries, but please be courteous to others. If you need to talk on your cell phone, stay in lobby areas.

Don't Eat or Drink in the Galleries

Food and beverages are allowed in designated areas only.
