The Mekong River system was central to the rise of the great Angkorian empire. This role has been evoked in the rich treasury of writing about the temples ranging from the 13th century to the present. Dr. Milton Osborn, who is a scholar of the Mekong, shows how this writing opens a window onto the temples themselves and the way they were viewed by people as diverse as the 13th century Chinese envoy Zhou Daguan and the 20th century French novelist André Malraux.
