Inspiring Impressionism
February 26–May 16, 2008

Explore how impressionist artists both revolutionized painting and how they studied artists from the past to help them break new ground. Audio tour for elementary students focuses on an introduction to ten important Impressionists including Monet, Manet, Renoir, Degas, and female impresionists Cassatt and Morisot. Middle and high school students may use the adult audio which reveals details of how impressionists learned from Old Masters such as Valazquez, Rubens and Chardin.
School group price of $7 per student includes the audio tour. One adult chaperone is required for every five students. (Admission is free for required chaperones. Additional chaperones will be charged for an adult ticket.) Payment is required in ten full days before your scheduled visit. Gee’s Bend: The Architecture of the Quilt

Explore great African-American quilts made in the small, rural community of Gee’s Bend, Alabama. These masterpieces of quilter’s art were made for homes and families. They stunned the art world and have made some consider the quilters of Gee’s bend among the important artists of the 20th and 21st century. One-hour guided tours are $3.50 per student, and chaperones are free.
