Position Purpose
- The Adult and College Programs intern will assist in developing and implementing new initiatives that engage young adult audiences with our collections, exhibitions, and programs in innovative and unconventional ways. An interest in cultivating young adult museum audience is essential.

Education - Education-driven Collection Research Internship
Position Purpose
- The primary task of this internship is to research works of art in the DAM’s collection for specific needs in school, teacher, family and adult programs. Candidates should also have an interest in the end users of this research (visitors on tours, school kids, family visitors, teachers, etc.) and in one of the following collection areas:
- Japanese Art
- Chinese Art
- American Indian Art
- Western American Art

Education - Exhibition Interpretation Internship
Position Purpose
- Education Interpretation and Exhibition Interns will assist in development of installed interpretive materials for adults and families related to exhibitions and permanent collections galleries. Areas will include written didactics, use of technology driven tools, interactives for adults, and activities for families and children.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Conducts Art History research on objects in the Permanent Collection.
- Researches current practices relating to interpretive material in other museums.
- Searches for and procures illustrative material for didactics and activities.
- Conducts visitor research including surveys and observations to determine effectiveness of interpretive material.
Education or Formal Training
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Art History, Education, Museum Studies, Studio Art or related field.

Education - Family Programs Internship
Position Purpose
- Come learn what it takes to create and maintain programs for families at one of the most nationally recognized family-friendly art museums in the country! This internship provides you the opportunity to aid the Denver Art Museum’s Community and Family programs staff in providing engaging, art-inspired experiences for family visitors including, working hands-on with families in the Just For Fun Family Center maintaining and evaluating in-gallery games, check-out activities, and drop-in programs, and assisting in the planning of special events.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Facilitate family learning and play in the Just For Fun Family Center 1 - 2 Saturdays. per month
- Support Family Programs Assistant with on-site maintenance and evaluation of in-gallery games and activities, check-out, and drop-in programs.
- Assist Family Programs staff with planning and execution of family events.
- Assist with visitor research, including conducting visitor observations and surveys.
- 4 - 6 HOURS PER WEEK - 1 - 2 SATURDAYS PER MONTH IS REQUIRED
Education or Formal Training
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program in Art History, Education, Museum Studies, Studio Art or related field.

Education - School and Teacher Programs Internship
Position Purpose
- This internship is designed to help us accomplish our goal for this audience: to provide interactive experiences of DAM collections and exhibitions that emphasize three areas of learning that contribute to school education in visual arts, language arts and literacy, social studies and history: aesthetic experiences (heightened sense awareness and visual skills); cultural awareness (focus on social context and art history); creativity (critical thinking and divergent thinking skills)
- The DAM serves students ages pre-school through 12th grade and teachers of all subjects but especially the regular elementary classroom teacher, and specialists in arts, language arts and social studies.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- research DAM collections
- research school and teacher needs and help us create Creativity Resources for teachers available online
- research learning and teaching methods and help create new teaching tools for use in the galleries
- work directly with students and teachers and help invent new tours and touring methods
- attend training for museum guides (about the collections, touring methods)
- explore how to link DAM collections to language arts, social studies, visual arts and other curricula
- develop teacher workshops
- find out about school services at other museums

Education - Visitor Evaluation Internship
Position Purpose
- The Visitor Evaluation intern will conduct small sample visitor evaluation studies through structured observations and interviews in order to explore how visitors use labels, interpretive elements, and museum spaces. Information gathered from these studies will help staff create better materials and experiences for adult, family and student group visitors.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Research objects in the DAM’s collections
- Work with staff to identify goals and develop methodologies for small sample evaluation projects
- Perform structured observations and visitor interviews
- Work with staff to develop template to document and report findings
- Prepare reports and review outcomes with appropriate staff

Internship - Curatorial: Department of Architecture, Design & Graphics
Position Purpose
- Contribute to the curatorial department and gain practical hands-on knowledge of the Architecture, Design & Graphics department within a non-profit institution
Essential Duties/Responsibilities
- Engage in directed research on recent and potential acquisitions for the permanent collection
- Upkeep of the archive files, collection database, and departmental library
- Research for current and upcoming exhibitions and programs
- Assist with special projects such as writing didactic materials
- Address a wide range of issues related to the museum’s permanent collection, including the AIGA Design Archives
Job Qualifications
- Strong interest in design and/or curatorial practice
- Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written
- Be able to work independently, thoroughly and with attention to detail
- Must have familiarity with academic research sites, such as JSTOR and Avery
- Familiarity with architecture and/or art historical works and terminology
- Comfort using university and public libraries
- Some graduate school experience preferred
