Artisans & Kings

Selected Treasures from the Louvre

October 6, 2007–January 6, 2008

Artisans & Kings told stories of painstaking craftsmanship, luxury, and political power in France during the century and a half leading up to the French Revolution.

Discover gilded chairs where royalty reclined; tapestries that were created through years of meticulous labor; a glittering chandelier that would have caused its maker to die young of mercury poisoning; and outrageous porcelain colors that chemists vied with each other to create. See the kings' collections of paintings and drawings, including treasures by important artists like Rubens, Titian, Velázquez, Dürer, and more.

Visit the Artisans & Kings website for more information—including a preview of the incredible artworks in this exhibition—or order tickets now.
