Tiwanaku
Ancestors of the Inca

Located in the highlands of Bolivia near Lake Titicaca, the Tiwanaku culture existed for nearly 1,000 years before it disappeared mysteriously in A. D. 1,000. Tiwanaku explored this ancient society through nearly a hundred objects, including textiles, ceramics, gold, wood, and stone sculptures.

Funding for this exhibition was provided by the National Endowment for the Arts, Newmont Mining Corporation, the National Endowment for the Humanities, U.S. Bank, the Gay and Lesbian Fund for Colorado, the Mayer Center for Pre-Columbian and Spanish Colonial Art, and the citizens who support the Scientific and Cultural Facilities District.
