Standing Figure, Magdalena Abakanowicz

Originally known for her woven art works, the Polish artist Magdalena Abakanowicz became intrigued in the 1970s with sculptural forms inspired by the human figure.

Her figures, shown singly and in groups, were created from materials ranging from fabric to bronze and have won international recognition. Made of burlap and sand, Standing Figure appears about to metamorphose from or dissolve into its unlikely and seemingly unstable materials.
