Rapidly changing technology has made collecting and displaying contemporary art a challenge.

Many videos and other technology-based works can only be exhibited a few at a time because they occupy a large area or require a darkened or isolated space—like the Lorna Simpson DVD installation here, which is twelve feet across and features a soundtrack of fifteen people separately humming the song “Easy to Remember.”
