Karen Kitchel’s American Grasslands is composed of twenty 12" x 12" panels that depict, in close-up detail, different kinds of grasses, from lawns to pastures to prairies.
“The series reflects how I have been approaching landscape for the last several years,” the artist says. “Perhaps it also mirrors our national attitude toward the land at this point in time. My paintings are fragmented, mournful, and isolated, yet also well-preserved, perfectly ideal specimens.”
