Chasuble
Religious and secular imagery decorates this chasuble, an ecclesiastical vestment worn by a priest celebrating the Mass. The back of the vestment is shown here.
The center orphrey band is embroidered with saints associated with the Carmelite order—St. Albert of Jerusalem (top) and St. Teresa of Avila (bottom)—with the Virgin and Child and St. Michael the Archangel overcoming Satan in between. To either side of the orphrey, as well as on the front of the vestment, naturalistic flowers are gathered into bouquets and tied with bowknots.
