The Education Department at The Denver Art Museum provides numerous internships to
students or recent graduates of museum related fields. Applications are accepted year-round
on a revolving schedule for three distinct terms:

All education internships are part-time with no compensation. To apply for any education internship, an

Position Purpose
The DAM welcomes all visitors and strives to be accessible to everyone. In accordance with this mission, the intern will support the coordinator of access programs in researching, designing and implementing established and new programming to increase the accessibility of the museum for all patrons. This includes visitors with visual impairments, visitors with hearing impairments, visitors with physical differences, and visitors with dementia.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the Coordinator of Access Programs with planning and execution of access programming, including art and about tours and tactile tours
- Support the Coordinator of Access Programs with implementation of universal design best practices
- Support the Coordinator of Access Programs with research surrounding ADA in museums
- Assist with visitor research, including conducting visitor observations and surveys
- Gather and analyze research on specific audiences (senior/aging population) within the Metro Denver area

Experience or interest in Special Education, Museum Studies, Disability Studies, Geriatric Social Work, and supporting the needs of visitors.

Position Purpose
The Adult and College Programs Film & Media intern will assist in documenting and producing video-based media related to programming events. This position requires a commitment to attend Untitled events, which take place on the final Friday of every month; additional event attendance will be determined as necessary. This position requires a commitment to attend Untitled events (final Friday of every month).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Document audiences engaging in program activities using photos, film, interviews and other techniques
- Produce short films and other media for informational/marketing purposes
- Attend and engage in Untitled on the final Friday of each month, other events as necessary

Position Purpose
The primary task of this internship is to research works of art in the DAM’s collection for specific needs in school, teacher, family and adult programs. Candidates should also have an interest in the end users of this research (visitors on tours, school kids, family visitors, teachers, etc.) and in one of the following collection areas:
- Japanese Art
- American Indian Art
- Western American Art
Duties & Responsibilities
- collect research information from a wide variety of sources (print, phone interviews, online, etc.)
- assist in collecting visitor experience research
- scan and word process materials for education files

Position Purpose
Family Programs interns will assist in the development of programming and in-gallery interpretive components to provide rich, interactive experiences for families visiting the museum. Interns will support the Family Programs staff with in-gallery activity maintenance, family events, hands-on studio activities, and research projects.

- Assist with and research Family and Community projects/programs as needed
- Support staff with monthly toddler program, Create Playdate and other events
- Support staff with on-site maintenance of in-gallery interpretive components

Position Purpose
Education Interpretation and Exhibition Interns will assist in development of installed interpretive materials for adults and families related to exhibitions and permanent collections galleries. Areas will include written didactics, use of technology driven tools, interactives for adults, and activities for families and children.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Conducts Art History research on objects in the Permanent Collection.
- Assist in collecting visitor experience research
- Researches current practices relating to interpretive material in other museums.
- Searches for and procures illustrative material for didactics and activities.
- Conducts visitor research including surveys and observations to determine effectiveness of interpretive material.

Position Purpose
DAM’s Latino Cultural Programs are designed to engage Latino audiences through programming and outreach initiatives. Intern will be responsible for providing support to Latino Cultural Programs Coordinator by assisting with monthly Latino-focused live program, supporting outreach efforts, gathering and organizing research on Latino audiences, object based research projects, and other projects as assigned. This position requires a commitment to attend CelebrARTE events (third Sunday of every month).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist with bilingual family program, CelebrARTE - assistance with audience outreach, program prep and research, and needs day-of
- Conduct and organize research about Latino audiences in Denver metro area and nationally
- Assist with object-based research that connects with Latino audiences
- Support general needs of Family & Community Program team

Position Purpose
This internship is designed to help us accomplish our goal for this audience: to provide interactive experiences of DAM collections and exhibitions that emphasize three areas of learning that contribute to school education in visual arts, language arts and literacy, social studies and history: aesthetic experiences (heightened sense awareness and visual skills); cultural awareness (focus on social context and art history); creativity (critical thinking and divergent thinking skills). The DAM serves students ages pre-school through 12th grade and teachers of all subjects but especially the regular elementary classroom teacher, and specialists in arts, language arts and social studies.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Research DAM collections
- Research school and teacher needs and help us enhance the DAM’s Creativity Resource for Teachers website
- Research learning and teaching methods and help create new teaching tools for use in the galleries
- Work directly with students and teachers to help invent new tours and touring methods
- Attend training for museum guides (about the collections, touring methods)
- Explore how to link DAM collections to language arts, social studies, visual arts and other curricula
- Assist in the development of teacher workshops and webinars
- Assist in the development of distance learning opportunities for students

Position Purpose
Studio Programs Interns will assist in developing and implementing new programming for our interactive Studio space. The Studio is a space designed to encourage visitors to engage with our collections and exhibitions in a hands-on way. This position requires a commitment of 10-15 hours per week. Studio Programs interns will divide their time between working in the Studio space and assisting the Manager of Studio and Artist Programs in the development of future Studio concepts and programs.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist Program Facilitator in the current Studio with art materials maintenance
- Greet and assist visitors with hands-on activities in the Studio
- Document and observe audience experiences in the Studio
- Assist Manager of Studio and Artist Programs with research and development of program ideas for future Studios
Additional Qualifications

Untitled interns will be part of the Adult & College Programs team. They will assist in developing and implementing new programming for our monthly late-night Untitled events. The focus will be on designing activities that engage audiences with our collections, exhibitions, and the museum itself, in innovative and unconventional ways. This position requires a commitment to attend Untitled events, which take place on the final Friday of every month; additional event attendance will be determined as necessary. This position requires a commitment to attend Untitled events (final Friday of every month).

- Assist in brainstorming and designing Untitled programs
- Research for programming ideas and audience values
- Assist in gathering and creating supplies for Untitled activities
- Attend and engage in Untitled on the final Friday of each month
